Install the WardStock Android app
Last updated 20 Sep 2026 (WardStock 7.11). The app is not in the Google Play store. You install a file the administrator gives you, which Android calls "side-loading". It takes about five minutes.
Read this first. This first version of the app has been built and tested on a computer, but it has not yet been run on a phone by anyone. Expect rough edges and tell the administrator what you see. Nothing you enter is lost if the app misbehaves: entries wait on the phone until they reach the server.
What you need
- An Android phone running Android 9 or newer (a Pixel is what it was built for).
- The app file,
wardstock-7.11.1.apk, from the administrator. Only install a file that came from the administrator directly, never one from a link or message you did not expect. - A WardStock login on the web, so you can make a pairing code.
- Health Connect if you want steps, sleep and heart data to fill in. On Android 14 and newer it is already part of the phone. On Android 9 to 13 install the free "Health Connect" app from the Play Store first.
1. Get the file onto the phone
- Ask the administrator to send you
wardstock-7.11.1.apk(a USB cable, a shared drive, or a direct message all work). - Save it in the phone's Downloads folder.
- Verify the file. The administrator gives you the file's SHA-256 (a 64-character code) along with it. On a Windows computer, run
certutil -hashfile wardstock-7.11.1.apk SHA256and check that the code it prints matches exactly. If it does not, do not install the file; ask the administrator for a new copy. The app is always signed with the same key, so its signing certificate SHA-256 never changes between versions:(published here after the app is first signed). Android shows the installed app's certificate under Settings, Apps, WardStock, App details on some phones, andapksigner verify --print-certsshows it for the file.
2. Allow the install
- Open Files (or Downloads) and tap the app file.
- Android will say it cannot install apps from this source. Tap Settings, then switch on Allow from this source for the app you opened the file with (Files, Chrome or similar). Go back.
- Tap Install.
- If Play Protect says it does not recognize the developer, that is expected for an app outside the store. Tap More details, then Install anyway, but only for the file the administrator gave you.
- When it finishes, you can switch "Allow from this source" back off in the same place.
3. Pair the phone with your account
- On a computer or the phone's browser, log in to WardStock and open Where When (the top icon), then Settings (the gear in the second row).
- In the Phones box tap Add a phone. A pairing code like
ABCD-EFGHappears. It works once and expires in 10 minutes. - Open the WardStock app, go to the Pairing tab, and type the code.
- The app should now say it is paired. Your first day appears on the dashboard.
The code is not a password and the phone never stores your login. It stores its own key, kept encrypted on the phone. To remove a phone later, use Revoke in the same Phones box.
4. Turn on the extras (optional)
- Health Connect. The app asks for permission the first time it can. It only fills in steps, sleep and heart values that are empty. It never overwrites anything you or Oura recorded.
- Unlock prompt. On the Pairing tab you can switch on "Require unlock". After that the app asks for your fingerprint, face or screen lock when you open it. Keep a screen lock set up on the phone, or the app cannot verify you.
- Blood sugar. The blood sugar tab appears only if the administrator has switched the module on for you.
Updating and removing
- Update: install the new file the same way, over the top. Your pairing and anything waiting to send stay in place. An update only installs if it was signed by the same key as the version already on the phone, which is why you should only ever use files from the administrator. If Android refuses with a "signature" message, do not uninstall: ask the administrator first, because uninstalling deletes entries that have not reached the server yet.
- Remove: long-press the app, then Uninstall. Then ask the administrator to revoke the phone (or do it yourself in Settings, Phones).
If something goes wrong
- "App not installed". Usually an older copy signed differently, or not enough storage. Tell the administrator the exact wording.
- Pairing says the code is not valid. Codes work once and expire after 10 minutes. Make a new one. After several wrong tries the server asks you to wait ten minutes.
- The app says it is unpaired after working. Pair again with a new code. Entries waiting on the phone are kept and send after you pair as the same person.
- Nothing happens on an entry. Entries are saved on the phone first and sent when there is a connection. The status at the top shows whether anything is waiting.
Questions or something not working: tell the administrator what screen you were on and what you expected; if it looks like a bug it goes on the company bug list.
